Privacy Policy

How OpenAid handles your information.

Last Revised: October 2, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how OpenAid, a website run by Logic Lab LLC (“Logic Lab LLC,” “we,” “our,” or “us”), handles your information when you visit this website. By using the site, you agree to the practices described below.

OpenAid is a free, English-language reference site. It has no accounts, no sign-up, and no cookies of its own, and it does not run advertising. This policy applies to all visitors, regardless of location.

1. Scope and Consent

This Privacy Policy applies to this website and its contact form or email address. We may update this policy from time to time, and we'll post the revised version here with a new date. Your continued use after updates means you accept the changes.

Our site is for working professionals and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.

2. Information We Collect

We collect both information you choose to provide and information generated automatically through normal website operation. This includes, but is not limited to:

2.1 Information You Provide

The only way to send us information is to contact us, by email or through the contact form when it is switched on. If you do, we collect:

  • Your name and email address
  • Your organization and role, if you choose to give them
  • The contents of your message

2.2 Automatically Collected Information

Our hosting provider (Vercel) and related infrastructure may collect certain technical data automatically, including:

  • IP address and geolocation approximation
  • Browser type and device information
  • Pages visited and referring URLs
  • Date, time, and duration of site visits
  • Server log data for security and performance

We may also turn on Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views and referrers without cookies and without following you across sites or building a profile of you. If it is on, it also counts a few actions without identifying you: a “Was this useful?” answer and its reason (picked from a fixed list; nothing you type is sent), a save, a share or a print, and whether a search found anything (not what you searched for).

3. How We Use Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Reply to your message and keep a record of it
  • Correct mistakes and decide which guides to write next
  • Keep the site secure and working
  • Understand, in aggregate, which pages are read
  • Protect our legal rights and comply with legal obligations

4. Data Retention

We keep messages for as long as needed to reply and to keep a record of the conversation, to comply with legal obligations, and to resolve disputes. You can ask us to delete your message at any time (see Section 9).

5. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. We share it only as follows:

  • Service Providers: With the vendors that host the site (Vercel) and deliver form messages and email, who handle data only to provide those services.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or corporate restructuring, data may be transferred as part of the transaction.
  • Legal Compliance: Where required by law, subpoena, court order, or regulatory request, or when we believe disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, safety, property, or the rights of others.

6. Cookies, Analytics and Storage on Your Device

OpenAid does not set cookies, and there is nothing to sign in to. We do not use advertising or behavior-tracking tools. If Vercel Web Analytics is on, it measures page views without cookies.

Some features remember things in your own browser's storage (local storage). This stays on your device, is never sent to us, and you can clear it at any time in your browser settings:

  • My List: the pages you choose to save. A list is only shared if you copy or send its link yourself; the link contains the list of pages and nothing else.
  • Recently viewed: the last few pages you opened, so you can find them again.
  • Your last choices: the tab you last used on a topic page and the last review checklist you opened.

If we add any other tool that uses cookies or similar technology, we will update this section first.

7. Data Storage and Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to safeguard collected data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. These measures include secure hosting, encrypted connections, and limited access to authorized personnel.

However, no online transmission or storage system is completely secure. By using this site, you acknowledge that data transmission over the internet carries inherent risks and that Logic Lab LLC cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Retention and Deletion

We retain information for as long as necessary to run the site, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Retention periods vary depending on the type of information and how it's used. We may retain backup copies or aggregated data even after deleting primary records. If you have questions about our retention practices, please contact us.

9. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have certain rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, or delete your data. We respect these rights and will work with you to address valid requests.

To exercise your data rights: Contact us at contact@opendevelopmentaid.org with your request. We'll respond promptly and do our best to accommodate your request, though in some cases we may need to retain certain information for legal or legitimate business purposes.

10. Third-Party Services and Links

This website may link to third-party websites. Logic Lab LLC has no control over and accepts no responsibility for the content, policies, or practices of third parties. Interaction with those services is governed by their own privacy terms.

We are not liable for the security or handling of information by third-party hosting, infrastructure, or service providers beyond reasonable measures of due diligence.

11. Business Transfers and Corporate Events

If Logic Lab LLC undergoes a business transition such as a merger, acquisition, reorganization, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. All data rights and obligations under this policy will transfer to the successor entity.

12. International Use and Data Transfers

Our operations and hosting are primarily in the United States. If you access this website from outside the United States, you understand that your data may be transferred to, processed, and stored in jurisdictions where privacy laws may differ. Your continued use of the site constitutes consent to this transfer.

13. Policy Updates

We may update this Privacy Policy at any time, and the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. Your continued use of the site after the posting of changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated terms.

14. Disclaimers and Limitations

Our disclaimers and limits of liability are in our Terms of Service, which apply to this policy. If this policy and the Terms conflict, the Terms control.

15. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

This policy is governed by North Carolina law, as set out in our Terms of Service.
